One in five people at some point suffer from a form of mental illness, whether its anxiety, depression, stress, or other psychiatric illnesses. Everyone goes through highs and lows and experiences different levels of stress through their life, however, when these symptoms persist for a long period of time it is important to discuss these with your doctor.

We are all different, with our own coping mechanisms, hence no two people react the same way to a situation. Therefore, it is important for your doctor to also take an individualised approach, discuss and identify the issue and develop a management plan that is best suited to your needs.

Our doctors take the time and care required to understand the issues before deciding if further care is necessary such as, referral to a psychologist / psychiatrist, addition or adjustment to your medications or order any investigation if they feel physical cause needs to be excluded.

Discuss with reception appropriate time needed for your appointment and an extended appointment may need to be required.

Queensland is known as the Sunshine State, and we thoroughly enjoy our weather most of the year. However, the constant sun exposure puts us at the highest rates of skin cancers in the world.

If you are concerned at any stage about any changes to your skin e.g. moles, sun spots, ulcers we encourage you to make an appointment as soon as possible.

In addition to this, it is a good idea to get regular skin checks. The frequency of these skin checks depends on your age, your sun exposure and predisposing factors, but generally as you get older more regular skin checks are required (usually annual skin checks are adequate)

Early detection is vital, and the majority of skin cancers if detected early can be successfully treated and cured.
